Managed Care Organizations (MCO)
The Challenge: Tasked with administering finite member resources,
Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) seek prudent use of all manner of
medical services. The demand for medical excellence has spurred the
development of new technology and has also created new sub-specialties
among physicians. Accompanying these advances are increased costs.
When a member is experiencing chronic pain, or perhaps has pain
associated with a job related injury, the challenge is two-fold:
-
Return the member to a normal lifestyle (including work).
-
Contain or reduce overall costs associated with the process.
Solution: JLR Medical Group, an Orlando based anesthesia practice
that provides anesthesia services to Florida Hospital, has assembled a
team of seven pain-fellowship trained anesthesiologists
dedicated to making pain management a win-win experience for everyone
involved. JLR, in a team effort with Florida Hospital, has
established the Center for Pain Medicine. Below are some things the MCO can
expect from the Center for Pain Medicine that make the Center for Pain
Medicine a valued ally:
Managed Care Friendly: As physicians, our commitment is to the
well being of our patients. However, we understand the complexity of an
evolving healthcare management system. You can expect to find a cooperative
team ready to meet the needs of both patient and payer.
Quality Care: Pain fellowship trained anesthesiologists from
excellent backgrounds make up JLR's physician component at the Center for
Pain Medicine (see physician's page). You can
also expect Florida Hospital's facilities to stay current with modern
technology and comfort, as well as making available qualified support staff
and ancillary services. JLR's physicians have access to the latest in
diagnostic-imaging technology improving care by helping to reduce cases of
misdiagnosis and unneeded or misplaced procedures/injections.
Goal Oriented/Time Limited Care: The physicians at the
Center for Pain Medicine understand the limits of even the best medical
care. We realize that not everyone will lead a pain-free life. When
agreed upon goals are met, treatment regiments will be modified or even
discontinued. In Workers' Compensation cases, we understand the need for
quick and accurate assessment, and appropriate treatment planning to achieve
maximum medical improvement (MMI) and, if possible, facilitate a speedy
return to work.
Convenience for Patients:
Patients and referral sources will find a Pain Center close at hand, since
the Center for Pain Medicine has seven
locations in Central Florida.
Multidisciplinary Approach: At times, effective pain
management requires a concerted effort with various specialties including
psychology, physical therapy and other medical specialties. The Center
for Pain Medicine does not practice "cookie-cutter" medicine; pushing
everyone into multidisciplinary treatment.
But when it is important to the patient's care, a team is quickly
brought to bear.
Communication/Accountability: The physicians at the
Center for Pain Medicine understand the payer's interest in having quality
medical services provided within the confines of the member's means. We
strive to keep communication with those monitoring the member's care at the
forefront of every case.
Resource Management: An expected by-product of the Center for Pain
Medicine's approach to managing pain is better utilization of the member's
resources. The practice of appropriate Pain Medicine often results in the
downward substitution of care. That is, effective care is not
necessarily expensive care; and is often actually less expensive
than other treatment options.
Insurance: Finding an insurance carrier on this page
does not guarantee coverage. Please refer to the specific carrier's policy
on matters concerning pain medicine/management.
